Lusciously Lighter Self: Journey update!

Cleaning, Exercise, Diet and Mind are my goal.  To read the story so far, click HERE!

It has been a couple of weeks so here is an overview update!

Weight Challenge Goals:
  • Look healthy for my size, not skeletal or chubby.
  • Eat at least 1 piece of fruit a day rather than lots of veg and juice.
  • Drink 2 litres of water a day.
  • No microwave fast food in plastic containers.  (Plastic= cancer causing dioxins cooked into foods & drink)
  • Find metal flask and kettle rather than plastic.  (Especially for in the car as water bottles which are left in the car/window warm the liquid inside and then boil cancer causing dioxins into the liquid).

Update:
I have been eating fruit over smoothies and juice.  I have found remembering to drink water tough, as I just get busy.  I love the taste so I'm trying to drink 1 glass with each meal, plus one in between, leaving 2 more to be fitted in!  I fell down on one microwave meal, (but that is because someone else cooked it for me and I didn't want to waste food when some people have none).  I have found my skin and energy has improved.

To do:
Metal Flask for drinks (over plastic bottle).
Tone chubbyness!

Cleaning Goals:
  • Empty the washing basket and see that it is all washed, cleaned, sorted and ironed (right down to the last item, including every hand wash item!
  • Empty suitcase from trips away!
  • Clean out bathroom and use anti-bacterial wipes on computers and phones.
  • Order stuff in a ways that the most used is easily accessible! Air duvet and pillows.
Update:
I did 5 loads of washing last weekend.  I washed all the towels, storage items, hand wash, plus my normal items.  It felt good to clear out the entire linen cupboard and my wardrobe.  I also emptied my suitcase and prepared it for the next trip.  Bathroom cupboard has been cleared and cleaned.  All out of date medicines and products have been emptied/recycled!

My biggest challenge: My entire room has been emptied/cleaned and de-cluttered.  I have new make-up storage and a de-cluttered space.  Tidy space, tidy mind!

I filled up;
1 x rubbish sack
2 recycle bags (plastic, metal)
1 x charity shop bag
1 x textile and shoe recycle sack
1 x box for Give and Make-up.

I will do a post on my make-up storage!

To do:
Maintain order and do not clutter space!  If I bring a new item in (i.e. bathroom item) it must be because I have used something up!

Exercise Goals:
  • Replace lost* pedometer and aim to do 10'000 steps a day. (*fell off while training for a charity run/walk)
  • Buy Yoga DVD and try to do 2 sessions a week (in class if poss, or on own)
  • Try to do 1 Cardiovascular class a week and a power walk for a healthy heart.
  • Try to tone up tum, bum and thighs.

Update:
I bought a pedometer from Argos for around £10. It measures steps, as well as your fat percentage (through pressing your fingers against a metal plate).  I have upped my steps to 10'000 a day and feel GREAT!  I have not put on any fat which is also great.

I have been doing these exercises that Aussie sent us.

Aussie's Lusciously Light Videos: Part 1 from 1000heads on Vimeo.

(or Click http://vimeo.com/22647354 or http://www.uncoveraussie.co.uk/ )

They are so simple but great to fit into my busy day.  Guess what!  I even found an much loved earring that I lost  (although that was down to the de-cluttering.  It had fallen into a box that I would never have otherwise emptied.  I am SO pleased!)  I am seeing and feeling the results.  Have you tried these?

I'm trying out different gentle cardio classes- mixed with a bit of dance.  Yoga DVD I have picked up is Leah Bracknell's 'Yoga and You' which varies from £2-£15 on Ebay and Amazon!

To Do: Maintain!

Mind Goals:
  • Tidy Space, Tidy Mind (especially sleeping space, which must be a sanctuary)
  • Don't pick spots when stressed!
  • Go back to keeping a daily agenda of tasks for work AND personal life.
  • Diary in 1 relaxing evening a week.
  • Read a book or learn a bit of something new? (To be decided!)
Update:
Tidying is done, spots- work in progress!  I have caught myself scratching absent mindedly.. Whoops!  Relaxing evening has been easy with all the Bank Holidays.

To do: Relax when not on Bank Holiday!  Read a new book!

So there is a long update!  If you want anymore details on specific parts, just ask.  I am finding this so therapeutic and I can't tell you how much more energy I have.  These are thing that I have wanted to correct for a while, but have lacked focus, energy and time.  Having a network of Aussie Angels has helped motivate me!

Are you on this journey with me?  What are your goals, and how are you getting on?  Let me know if you have any tips and if you try the exercises!

Current Haircare Routine

Just a quick post to share my current haircare shampoo and conditioner routine.

In order (Left to right), I start with Sebastian Evokativ moist conditioner.  Smells a little of citrus (which it is meant to).  Applies easily to wet hair and helps take out any knots. (I think this was £10).

I then use Schwarzkopf Bonacure hairtherapy Moisture Kick shampoo.  This makes my hair so soft and managable.  It doesnt smell weird and you only need a little (which is great for my past-the-shoulders hair).  You can buy this for around £7 online.

Joico K pak reconstructor deep treatment.  I use this every couple of washes (as needed).  Apply, leave for 5 mins and rinse off.  Great when my hair needs a bit of TLC after over styling!  It smells lovely, may slightly of coconut? Cant quite place the smell.  My local hairdresser sells this for around £10 although online has various prices.

Prior to drying I use my Aussie leave in spray conditioner.  Smells like ice-cream :)  Helps protect my long hair from tangles and dry ends prior to hairdrying.  I decant this into a little spray bottle for travel.  I did get sent this but I used the miracle version for a decade (eek!) so it's part of my routine.  You can pick this up from most chemists for around £3.50-£4 (sometimes on offer!)

Of course my routine changes from time to time, and my hairdresser's don't have to work hard to sell me different products!  Sometimes a change can really revitalise my hair.

Let me know if you want a more in depth post on any item!

What products are currently in your haircare routine? Have you used any of these?

Clinique Chubby Stick!

I got one :)  I have been checking at my local counter weekly in vain (just in case).. on Saturday I was in luck.

I am sure you have all read about them so I'll keep this brief.

Clinique Superbalm Chubby sticks come in 8 colours.  They wind up, so no product is lost while sharpening.  Claim to be moisturizing colour balm.

This is the colour 08 Graped-up. A nude rose brown colour.  Dark natural but not too much.  (Slightly blurry but shows up the beautiful sheen.  It is NOT glittery or shimmery).

Verdict: After four days wear, I love it.  Applies easily, moisturises but doesn't feel greasy.  The balm is fairly solid so it doesn't apply in huge gobs (unlike some products).  It lasts a fair while, and doesn't dry out the lips.  Have also found the added bonus that my hair doesn't stick in it too much.  I hate my hair sticking to my lips.  You never see that happen to say, Cheryl Cole in her Glam shine advert, or Lily Cole as she heads down the catwalk. (Not that I am either of those two!)

Great summer bag essential, and will be picking up another when this is used up.  Maybe I might pick up another colour.

Applied.

This cost £14 from Debenhams or House of Fraser (unless you have club points or Boots Advantage points to spend ;)

....And for those who had forgotten.  This is the old style chubby stick (in Vanilla Brownie).  Needs to be sharpened.

Do you have any clinique chubby sticks?  What colours do you like?  Any recommendations for other colours?  How do you moisturise your lips?

Lusciosuly Lighter Self! My story & challenge.

Emotional, Physical or Environmental! My challenge for the next few weeks is to become a bit more lighter in my health and outlook.  It's an Aussie Angel project but I have chosen apply it to all aspects of my life (not just my hair care!)  I am hoping that a few of you will join me so I'm not going it alone!

Who is a lusciously lighter angel?  To me she is clean, tidy, healthy in mind and body and free from negative worries and cares!  Above all she is a goddess, bursting with energy and life!

Although the title of this post might make you think about weight and weight loss, I want to stress that Aussie is NOT making us loose weight!  We said we wanted a health and clutter kick, so here it is!  A lot of things affect one's health; stress, food, exercise, clutter, worries.... Aussie is hoping to help us tackle some of those 'life stresses'

I have broken it down into categories so just skip to the bit that you want to read!  I will be doing posts along the way sharing my success (there WILL be success- positive mental attitude) and tips.

Lusciously Lighter Weight & Diet Overview:  Broadly speaking I am happy with my weight, or rather size measurements (See pic below!).  Muscle weighs more than fat, so the more toned you are, the heavier you'll be!  I'd like to tone up but more on that later.  The older I get, the more conscious I am of what I eat.  I don't 'limit' myself but I try to balance out what I eat.  I have a small stomach and slow metabolism in some ways, I can quite easily forget meals, but I would NOT recommend this!  I'm a tall girl so I can carry a little extra and still 'look healthy.

I have given up chocolate for lent.  I don't know weather to carry it on to the meet up or not?  What do you think?  I do find that I am eating less sweet things and if I do want a treat, then I'm reaching for alternatives such as flapjack, sponge cake and granola.  I am on the go a lot and get dehydrated, forget to eat fruit and sometimes reach for microwave meals.

Weight Challenger Goals:
  • Look healthy for my size, not skeletal or chubby.
  • Eat at least 1 piece of fruit a day rather than lots of veg and juice.
  • Drink 2 litres of water a day.
  • No microwave fast food in plastic containers.  (Plastic= cancer causing dioxins cooked into foods & drink)
  • Find metal flask and kettle rather than plastic.  (Especially for in the car as water bottles which are left in the car/window warm the liquid inside and then boil cancer causing dioxins into the liquid).

***

Lusciosuly Lighter Cleaning Overview: Again, a victim of being on the go.  (Might I just add that this does NOT mean my body is unclean!!)  The busier I get the more things get left, which means I cant find them.  Some things are not easily accessible, but are used daily so I need to resort them.  The washing basket is never empty- lots of handwash items in the bottom, waiting for a dry day to hang outside.  My desk/work space needs a reshuffle and my keyboard needs a hoover!

***

Lusciously Lighter Clutter!! Spring clean the following;
  • Medicines from bathroom cupboard.
  • Old expired beauty and make up products.  Donate new and lightly used to Give and Make-up
  • Wardrobe (Keep, charity, recycle)
  • Desk
  • that drawer.  Yes the one every house has.  The drawer of DOOM!

***
Lusciously Lighter Exercise Overview: Not great but getting better.  With my busy life this does suffer.  My new (academic) year's resolution was to do Yoga.  This has slipped recently due to the class having problems.  I was doing ok  I like walks so now the weather is on the up perhaps I can get out more as some days at work barely move (hous, car, work, car, house, sleep badly)

    Excercise Goals:
    • Replace lost* pedometer and aim to do 10'000 steps a day. (*fell off while training for a charity run/walk)
    • Buy Yoga DVD and try to do 2 sessions a week (in class if poss, or on own)
    • Try to do 1 Cardiovascular class a week and a power walk for a healthy heart.
    • Try to tone up tum, bum and thighs.
(This is not me in the picture!)

    ***

Lusciously Lighter Mind Overview:  I have had a few sleepless nights in my time.  In fact I tweeted about it the other night.  I am a good one for writing down tasks I have to do at work but this seems to have slipped and I think I need to do it for everything.  I feel happy to tick things off and then don't stress that I have forgotten something.  I also need to make sure I relax and don't work too hard, but also don't feel guilty when I relax and haven't completed a task.

So a woolly mammoth of a post later, these are some of my goals!!  I hope to post on these things as I go a long and share any tips.

So, are you going to join me? What are your goals? Perhaps you have some tips to share?  If you do a post, please link it in the comments.

First things first, I need to go shopping.... (for cleaning and challenge supplies!)

Blush Love 4: Daniel Sandler Peach Puff

Continuing my series on blushes, I present Daniel Sandler Cosmetics.

This blush is one of my most reached for.  It sits about mid range (at around £11-12), and boy is it worthy of a place in my 'most used' basket!

It is so pigmented.  Only apply with a light touch unless you want a dramatic look!  This is great as a little goes a long way.  It isn't shimmery or full of glitter, and I find the fine, soft powder lasts very well.

I love the colour because it is different to the rest of my collection, and slightly out of my comfort zone.  Sometimes it is good to pick up something different and try it, rather than dismiss on face value.

To give you a point of reference, here is it again MAC's Peachykeen (top) and Springsheen (bottom).

At 3.4g you can see it's smaller than MAC, but I normally have to use more of the MAC blushes.

Swatched in order.  Obviously I blend Daniel Sandler's one more then in the picture above!

The perfect blush with nude lips and dark eye.  Perhaps I should do a photo of the day for you when I next wear it?

Daniel Sandler products can be bought from Very.co.uk, Urban Retreat's http://www.beautique.com  Or you can check out the counters up and down the country including Harrods.  See this link for locations!

Sadly I think this blush is discontinued but snap it up if you see it!!

    Worthy of Blush Love!

What blushes win your 'blush love'?  What colours are you reaching for daily?  Have you tried any Daniel Sandler products?

    Denman, Woman!!

My faithful hairbrush fell apart last week. It was a sad day.  Off I went to Boots to find a replacement.

I picked up this Denman Styler.  Yes I replaced the broken one with the exact same model.

    Why?

Because it's a good brush and had lasted years (until I kept it in direct sunlight!).  It was always in my bag, flew with me, travelled to the seaside... almost feel like crying!  It is sturdy to loose out a few knots, but not harsh enough to damage your hair.  It also washes easily.

The best part about this range is that it has a naturally anti-static rubber pad.  Great for my long locks, which seems to frizz quite a lot!

I ALMOST picked up the same brush which smells of fruit.  It was very cute, but I thought the white brush would show up dirt quickly.

Do you have a Denman brush?  How to you care for your hairbrushes? Which ones do you like?

Witch Skincare Products: Overview (and small rant!)

You might have seen my post on the Witch Skincare event?

Well I was sent home with this

That is quite a generous goodie bag!

I am a big believer in testing products before I write about them.  It actually upsets me when bloggers go to events and then write up on the products straight away.  When using a new product surely your need to see how it fares with time? ESPECIALLY skincare.

In our 'ahem' four weeks cycle, our skin is affected by hormones.  Skin can go from dry to spotty and back to dry in 4 weeks.  This means that to get a 'fair' test you need to test a new skin routine for at least 4 weeks.  Otherwise what's to say your skin's 'reaction' isn't just your hormones?  I have known one or two friends try something once, moan about spots and not use the product, until I reasoned with them.  Upon trying again there was no reaction!

Also, a good product is likely to bring out a few spots. Why? Because it's cleaning your skin of all the deep set dirt, bacteria and other nasties.  This can bring out spots in even perfect looking skin. Stick with it!!

So I have been testing out these products and will probably break them down into three groups.

Skincare: Wash, Wipes, Spot Pen, Witch stick.
    Skin Preparation: Redness Relief, Primer.
    Make-up: Tinted moisturiser, powder, concealer.

Witch don't expect anyone to use all the products, but hope that one will be of use to you and your routine.

Have you tried any of these products?  Have you given a second chance to a product and liked it second time?

    Review: Avon Supershock Gel eyeliner

As requested, my thoughts on the Avon Supershock gel eyeliner.

I bought this in black for £4- I think there was a promotion on at the time as its normally £6.

This eyeliner is very soft and creamy.  It applies very easily, with minimun drag to the eyelids.  The black is intense, but not the blackest black I've seen.  However, in certain lights is looks equal to Urban Decay's Zero or GOSH's eyeliners

Avon's has a dark green undertone, which is only noticeable when I remove it with cotton pads.  This does make it dark black .

It does smudge if you move it too much before dry. The trick is to let it dry, or apply a black shadow as a 'setting' liner over the top.  I find it stays on quite well- I swatched it over night and it stayed on for 24 hours, albeit less intense over time.

It comes in a few other colours like Khakis and silver.  I would like the bronze one as I have a soft spot for browns.

Would you guys like me to do a post comparing to Urban Decay, Mac and Gosh?

You can pick up the Avon one from your local rep or online at www.avonshop.co.uk or click here for direct link

Have you tried this product? What else can you suggest from Avon?  Any recommendations?

    I won Natio!

I won a twitter competition! Hurrah!  So I am now in posession of a Natio 3 step facial kit!

     Ooooo!!
The bag reminds me of daisies. :)  I used to make daisy chains when I was little (but only when I knew the grass was going to be mowed as I didn't like killing flowers!

The bag is quite sturdy so great for travel and protecting the contents!

    This is what was inside:

A headband (velco so it wont mess up my hairstyle like the ones you have to pull on!)
    Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser
Rosewater and Chamomile Gentle Skin Toner
Daily Protection Face Moisturiser SPF 15

Natio is an Australian brand and not one I know a lot about.  I'll let you know how I get on!

Has anyone used these products before?  Do you use the same skincare products or mix it up?

    Female Lone Travel: Advice needed

Two posts in one day? Not quite!  I am in desperate need of some relaxation in the sun.  I quite fancy going to Europe for a couple of days, but not sure where.  Twitter is a bit quiet today so I though I would ask questions here too.

    (Google image)
Has anyone ever travelled as a lone female?
Where would you suggest for a few 'safe' days in Europe? (Not really partying, just chilling!)
What would be your top tips?

Part of me thinks wait until I can find someone to go with me, but I actually WANT to travel abroad on my own before I die!  Travel is a bit of a pain on your own as many hotels charge the same rates for double rooms as single rooms.  It's making it look a bit expensive.  Still I can dream and research!!

    Thanks in advance!

    Skin Love: Body Shop Exfoliator

Skin quest continues!  This has helped so much!

I love my Clarisonic but it is not an exfoliating gadget!  It's a cleanser, and everyone still needs to exfoliate.  In need of something a bit more for my nose and eyebrows, I stopped by The Body Shop last week and picked up a facial buffer.

Slip your hand under the band and exfoliate dry, dead skin off your face with small circular motions.

Yes it works and makes getting rid of dry skin so easy.  Especially in hard to reach areas such is round the nose.  It is tough but not too hard (obviously this depends on how much pressure you apply).  A perfect cheap 'extra'.

I use gently about 3 times a week and wash in hot water after use.  The key is regular routine, not hard pressure.  After all, less dead skin = less gunk to clog your pores = less spots.

It cost £3 and you can pick it up here online.

What do you use to exfoliate your face? Do you have this?

    Batiste Dry Shampoo!

I wrote a while back about Batiste Dry Shampoo.  Well I tried to get some more, but was unable to find the brown version :(  I have been told that it is not longer available in that format as Batiste have released a newer, improved version.  I can't get hold of the new brown version for love or money so I have had to use this
    Batiste Tropical!

Although this does it's job and stops my hair looking lifeless, this gives a bunnette gal a 'ahem' grey tint*!  Not great to find out in an emergency as I'm running out the door!!  If you are a bunnette then be very careful to massage this through your hair carefully and brush out with a natural brush!

It stops hair looking greasy or just adds body to clean hair.

*At least I know what I will look like in a few years time! :/

How do you put a bit of life into hair when you don't hair time to wash it?  What dry shampoo do you use?
