Backcomb in a pot! Clynol Powder Punch.

Happy christmas and a lovely new year! I hope you had a wonderful time with family and friends :)

This has really spiced up my hair in the festive season!

Clynol's Powder Punch.
A sprinkler pot of powder that turns into a sort of gel (not liquid as the pot says) powder that you can massage into your hair to give it great lift and volume.  I have also found it holds style quite well.  It's quite compact so a handbag friendly product :)

Its called a texture powder.  It comes out white/clear and blends in easily to my dark hair- no fear of looking like dandruff then! A little goes a long way. Thankfully its not sticky, or weird smelling.  It is also easy to work with, which is great.  I often feel vry out of my dept with hairstyling, ending up with having to wash my hair again because products make it look dull, greasy and lank.  This isnt one of those products.
I would show you a shot of me here but I am fully of cold and have a horrible ill looking face (red skin, dry patches etc!)

It retails from hair salons and a few online stockist such as Cheap Smells and  Feelunique although the cheapest Ive found so far has to be Beauty Bay

I really like it as a quick pick me up, or as a root lift the day inbetween hair washes.
Costs betwen £7.99-£10 depnding on where you shop ;)  Lots of sales on at the moment :)

Repurchase? YES!!

A mini post- I have been back to work for 3 days already- so I am very out of the loop with blogging!

Fill me in on your news!

A Christmas Message

While most of us are with family, eating too much, throwing away wrapping paper, drinking plenty, counting our gifts.... this christmas has been different for me this year for many reasons.

Please spare a thought for those who work in hospices, caring for the terminally ill.  A christmas filled with saddness and joy- but one where they try to remain positive and up beat.  This makes such a huge difference to the paitents and families.  A moment of light relief.

Please also spare a thought for those who will be working in care homes, homeless shelters, refuges, hostels, hospitals and other selfless occupations today.

If you are with family or friends then be grateful that you have a day with them, and most of all, enjoy it.

Wishing you a safe, healthy and  happy christmas :)
Emma xx

P.s. Dont forget to donate unwanted presents and recycle cards and wrapping paper :)

Review: Clinique Superbalm Moisturizing Gloss

Clinique Say: Lip balm with a colourful twist. Luscious, high-gloss shades treat your most undermoisturized skin to soothing shine. Instantly relieve dryness, protect with antioxidants and more.

Computergirl Says: I have this in 09 Currant. It has a slightly fruity smell but not overly fruity taste.  Sorry Clinique, but I dont find it overly moisturising.  In fact I seem to find it a bit drying.  Initially it feels soothing, but as it settles I find it seems to accentuate my dryness.  It is a little thick and sticky for me- I wonder if this is why it dries my lips out.  The plus point is the colour, a natural 'my lips but better', but I have to reapply it so much that I'll be through this very quickly.  I think it might also have an SPF in but I need to check that.

Maybe it's winter, maybe it's my cold, maybe it's my lips.  Maybe I have just been spoilt by products.  It wasnt completely the worst lipbalm I have tried, but just one that I wont be rushing out to repurchase.  I think I will keep up my lipbalm quest!

Repurchase: Ummm. Maybe i'm mad but I dont get this product. Its a no to repurchasing.

Purchase from Clinique stands and online £12.50 for 15ml

Have you tried this lipbalm? Did you like it?  What lipbalms do you give the thumbs up or thumbs down to?  What would you recommend for me?

Aussie Bloggers Market Event!

A couple of weekends ago I toddled off to London for an Aussie Angel evnt.  A bloggers market.  I am sure you have seen some Aussie posts floating about, so I'll keep this fairly short.
Lil (and me swigging on the wine!!)
(I opted for a Topshop grandad cardi, Miss Selfridge dress, Skinny jeans and knee high boots.  Warm for winter!)

The was to bring togther bloggers from all the hair tribes (Lucious long  (thats me!), Colour mate, frizz miracle, volume and moisture).  Stalls were available for blogger host an activity or skill.  Throughout the day there were talks on photography, blogging, vintage style, clothing style advice and catwalking!  It wouldnt be an Aussie event without a team of hairdressers on hand and a nice spread of festive food and mulled wine!

I dedicated my stall to Give and Make Up (Click here for more info).  I wanted to raise awareness about donating unused and lightly used essential products to women's refuges for Christmas.  I'm so pleased I did as THIS HAPPEND!!
Shifa having her hair styled.

I met so many lovely bloggers including
Makeover Amina (Innerbelle)
Cakes by Charlie (Vampires and Cardigan)
Card making by Fiona (Save our Shoes)
Face Painting by Kavita (I heart Vintage)
Book exchange and fantastic short stories by Lil
Makeup by Shifa of Get Gawjus
Boxing by Sherin

There were also some jewellery stands and a stall about how our mental health affects the colours we wear- I'll probably mention those in seperate posts :)

A highlight for me was meeting Jill Politt who works as a style and catwalk coach on shows like This morning and Britains Next Top Model.  She gave me some great style tips :)

I was the last one to get my hair styled, but opted for a vintage pin up look- a soft curl down one side, with a quiff.  The photos don't quite capture it!  I have hopes to recreate it- back combing is the key!  Fingers crossed!

With a belly full of warm mulled wine, and a nice goody bag for the train journey, I left the event with some new friends and new hair-spirations!

Thank you Aussie for a lovely day!  In particular Emma and Michelle for all their hard work and help with organising my stall!

A big hello if I met you!  Please say hi!

To read other posts on the day visit  Photos are taken from their blog and my phone (sorry about the quality).

Stocking Fillers : Epic Fail

Due to family, manic work and failure of the posts scheduler, my daily stocking fillers posts have not don what they said on the tin.  I will post some more ideas, but they arent going to try be daily anymore.  Sorry!  Just thought I shoudl clar that up as it has been an epic failur this year!

Friday, 10 December 2010

This made my day. Tears and all.

A few of you will have read my post about Give and Makeup , a campaign spearheaded by qualified beautician and blogger Caroline.  It aims to raise awarness about women's refuges, and the need for donations- new and lighty used products.  Most charities will only take new products.

Some of you know that I am an Aussie Angel.  I was offered a chance to host a stall at their latest even (write up coming soon!).  I decided to use my stall to raise awareness about donating lighty used and new products to Refuges.  For a list of what they need see Donations can be made straight to your local hostel where women are fleeing domestic abuse- many have children in tow.  The facts and figures are so scary.

I had a long chat with Emma of Aussie haircare.  The next thing I know, this happens....

That is a huge donation of 100 Aussie Take The Heat shampoos and conditioners, 24 Heat Protection Leave-In conditioner sprays, 15 mini shampoos and conditioners, 3 vanity cases each containing a Venus razor, mirrors and makeup from brands like Max Factor.

I am so touched that Aussie and Proctor and Gamble have been so generous.  This donation is going to go so far.

To women who have nothing, gaining a little help means a lot.  Furthermore gaining a little control over your life is essential.  We take for granted being able to check our appearance and wash out hair.  It makes such a difference to our self esteem.  To women who have been victims of domestic abuse, their confidence is in shreds.  Having a little something like a lipstick, or styled hair can be a little perk.

I just want to send a big THANK YOU to Emma, Aussie and P&G for supporting Refuge (charity) this christmas.

I also want to inspire you.  I am one person, but through asking a couple of people this happened.  Please ask any contacts you have.  What's the worst that can happen? Nothing. What's the best that can happen?.... Lots!

Refuges need:

Everyday Essentials
bath/shower gel
body lotion
feminine hygiene products
shaving products
at-home hair dye colouring kits

makeup brushes
makeup bags
curling tongs

Baby Products
all of them!

*please note - we can only accept new items of anything with an applicator wand e.g. mascara/lip gloss/concealer

GWP (Gift with purchase) sizes are fine, as are samples.

Anything that has been lightly used is also fine - if you would happily give it to a friend - we'll take it!
Also, why no donate a box of children's toys for christmas?  Or samples, hotel goodies? We have so much, and every donation is like gold dust to Refuge.
I can confirm that Refuge is a registered charity in the UK and legitimate.  If you are in doubt then take the donation straight to the hostel.
I know that there are many charities to support.  This one has my support this christmas.
I will have a full write up soon on the lovely Aussie event.
I just wanted to share this with you as it has really made me smile today.

Be inspired.

Very affordable and suitable for friends, family, OAPS or children

I read today that one couple have spent £30000 on their 3 month old BABY for christmas!  Most babies of 3 months wont undrstand what presents are, or be able to tell new from a lightly read book.  In fact most children I know are interested in the boxes things come in than the actual toy, or the best present is spending time playing with their parents.  Kids love to be read to, taught to read and see pictures.

Suitable for children, adults, friends and OAPS!

Christmas Giveaway! Give and Makeup

Yes, the promised givaway is almost here!

It is a thank you to you lovelies for following and commenting!  I started this blog as a personal diary, but the fact people read and comment is such a nice surprise! THANK YOU!

The stash is going to be quite modest.  There might be a few other additions, however I collected some prizes and then put some on one side to donate to Give and Makeup.

This is a wonderful idea.  If you haven't come across it then go to They collect unused (or lightly used) products to go to women's refuges.  Most women (and children) in refuges flee thir home, taking little or no possessions.  We all know how much we use moisturiser, shampoo, showergel... and what difference we feel when we put on a lipstick or lipgloss.  Now imagine that everyday is full of fear..... that your self esteem is rock bottom.  You literally have NOTHING, except the clothes you wear, and the child in your arms.  Any money you do have will go on food.  Having a little boost to your appearance or personal hygiene can really help us day to day- and most of us won't have had half the problems these women have faced.

If you are in the UK then please read and support them if you can.  If you are in another country then I have heard of other schemes like this.

Come on guys- everyone's bathroom collects hotel shampoo, soap, gel, airplane socks, sewing kits, magazine sample sachets- why not donate these?

You'll free up some clutter and help someone in need.

Mac Haul: Twinks Bisque satin taupe

The other week I visited Mac in London. It was one of the strangest experiences because the sales assistant stood on my foot as he was taking to me about the products.  I hear you say, 'that's a normal thing that everyone does!'  Really?

He didn't even noticed that his foot was fully on mine and carried on chatting (without removing it) for a good few minutes!  I was literally pinned to the spot!!!! And I was so thrown by the whole thing that I didn't say anything!  I just stood there like a lemon!! Normally people notice and can feel that their foot isn't flat!!  I laugh about it now, but I must have looked quite bemused!  Maybe he did notice and it was a sales tactic.. 'Um did you know that you are standing on me? Yes, Oh... do you want to remove you foot? No.. ok carry on selling things then!!'

Anyway, I purchased 3 pro pan eye shadows for my palette.

No Flash, Flash!

I was quite annoyed to see Twinks with a large dent when i got it out of my bag at home :(

Still a good base shade, and some lovely other shadows!
You can purchase these shadows online at MAC, or Debenhams (for free postage and beauty points)!

Have you got any of these?  What eyes hadows have you recently bought?  What is your most used eye shadow?

Cynol Shampoo and conditioner

My current haircare routine involves these two products, and I thought I would share them with you!  I like to mix things up every now and again, as I find that if I use the same products all the time, that my hair kind of 'gets used to them'.  I guess its like food! Very rarely would we eat the same meal, 3 times a day for months!

Cynol Moisture: Hydrate Shampoo
Cynol Says: Pro. Hydro. Complex, with modified Milk protiens and Panthnol.  For moisture, shine and elasticity.

Computergirl says: Just a normal use shampoo.  Lather, rinse and repeat and lather, rinse, repeat (as Pheobe once sung on friends!).  This makes my hair so soft!  It has a very slight floral smell, but nothing weird or offending.  A little goes a long way, so I find it perfect for travel, as I only have to take a small amount away with me.  (I decanter it into a smaller bottle).

Cynol Moisture Dream: Hydrate 2-Phase Conditioner
Cynol Says: For Normal-Dry Hair.  Pro. Hydro.Complex, with Pro-Vitamin B5 and modified wheat Protein.  For moisture, shine, easy combing and manageability.

How to use: Spray onto towel dried hair. Leave in.

What Computergirl says: This liquid forms two layers in the bottle, I love watching it and shaking them back together! (Never too old to play!!).  It doesnt smell weird, just faintly of a clean 'hair salon' smell.  Great if your skin is irriated by perfumey smells!

It is so easy to use, and I find it is perfect for my long hair.  My ends often get dry, and then knotted with dryness.  I spray this onto the bottom two 3rds and comb through gently.  It certainly creates a nice shine to my hair :)  It also doesn't leave a weird residue like some salon products. Hurrah!

Cynol is available in hair salons, and from places like and Cheap Smells.  Shampoo retails for around £7- £12 and the conditioner seems to retail from £6-£9.  I was sent this to try after a conversation, and chose to review it here.  My old salon used to use Cynol and I have purchased this brand with my own money in the past.  They do not test on animals.  As always, my own opinion.

Do you rotate your hair products?  What are you currently using? Have you tried Cynol?

P.s. keep your eyes peeled for my giveaway this week! Prizes are gathered and I'm quite excited! x

What I bought in Italy.

Ciao! Si! I went away recently for work (and a bit of play!), and no visit would be complete without a few purchases!

3 Essence nail polishes- A pinky glitter, teal glitter and holographic top coat.

I also picked up a Carpisa purse in Duty Free.  I badly needed a new purse and this was perfect!  Beautifully made and stylish :)
A great purse with lots of compartments. Exactly what I need!

A silver cross and a glass pendant from Venice.
Just a few little purchases.  I have not tested the polish, but I will do.  Let me know if you want swatches!

What is the best thing you have picked up on holiday or from Duty Free?  Have you tried the nail polish brand?

Would you like me to share what travel products I took?

Lipstick of the Week: Mac Viva Glam VI

Love, Love, Love this shade- my lips but better :)

It's a natural neutral shade, but with a bit more pinky, red.  Part of Mac's Viva Glam Collection.  I don't know if it is a pemanent collection, or permanent for a number of years (Like glam Gaga is out for 1 year).

Love this shade :) Perfect for winter when I have very pale skin!   Can also be used as an emergency cream blush.  Its a Luster and has the normal Mac Vanilla scent.  Although I love the scent, it can be a bit weird if I apply in and then eat something savoury!  I can also sometimes find it a bit drying, but I can always add a gloss.  I also find that the colour can last a while longer than some other lipsticks I have tried.

Do you have any of the Viva Glam collection?  What is your 'my lips, but better' shades/lipsticks?

Phone in the bath? Water on laptop?

What to do if your electric get wet.

I have had a lot of people ask me this recently soooo- If you have dropped your phone in liquid (toilet, wine, bath) or spilt liquid on your laptop, remote control etc then...

1) DO NOT SWITCH IT ON!! The liquid conducts electricity (remember thunderstorms and why you shouldn't us a hairdryer in the bath?!).  If a moisture droplet falls over two connections inside the gadget then it will create a short circuit.  It wont work, or worse, will break it forever.

2)UNPLUG THE GADGET FROM THE MAINS SOCKET!! TAKE OUT THE BATTERY!! (See above! It might trip your house electrics if left plugged in, EVEN if it is switched off! (Remember those exploding GHDs? All switched off, but plugged into the wall?  The transformers in the plug will still cycle if the plug is in the wall- so ALWAYS unplug things when out of use!!)

3) DISMANTLE as much as possible.

4)PLACE in a tub of dry rice, or if you have bags of silica gel (those packs that come in new bags or shoes) then use those.  They are supposed to suck up moisture droplets from the air.

5) PLACE in the airing cupboard or, failing that,  on/near a radiator.  LEAVE ALONE for three days.  Cross fingers and see what happens.

Hopefully this help you.  I have known this method work on phones and laptops. Sea water (super conductive due to salt), wine, water and juice!  Most people will go out and buy a new phone etc straight away, but have patience and hopefully this will save your pocket and data.

If the gadget still has problems then seek further help from a phone or laptop company.  It is likely that the circuits have been corrupted permanently and that, even though the liquid is gone, something has shorted and blown up internally.

If you have any tricks then let me know!

300 Posts: Reflections: Plea. What goes into a blog?

We don't say thank you enough.

I have been part of the blogging community for several years, I also noticed that I have posted 300 posts on this blog and over 3000 tweets.  Reflecting on this, I have seen a lot of changes in this time.  The blogging community is still going strong but has been through several trials, lots of arguments, some bullying by companies (because some of us didn't praise the product enough publicly!!), lots of sharing, lots of friendships formed, lots of beauty news.

Us bloggers are still here though!  We take time to share our thoughts regardless of who reads them, and provide real thoughts from real people (no air-brushing!).

When I write a post, I normally am responding to an email or comment, or just a random thought.  If I take photos I have to snap, upload, crop, watermark, downsize the file and then upload to blogger.  I then have to write the content and spell-check (although sometimes my proof reading doesnt work!).  All in all a post takes about an hour on average.  I enjoy writing each one, regardless of who reads it.

Over the past year I have noticed a lot more negative comments on every blog I visit.

I know there is not always time to comment, but if I read something and find it interesting, informative, useful, entertaining, inspiring or funny then I try to say thank you.

So in my 303rd Computergirl's Musing, I am going to urge you all to support your fellow bloggers.  Join me in the THANK YOU CHALLENGE!

For one week, if you read a post and find it interesting, informative, useful, entertaining, inspiring or funny, then say thank you!

Let's get some positive thoughts on blogs.

A thank you will raise a smile and inspire.  Make someone's day.

How could I finish this post without saying thank you!  Thank you for all the comments, friendships and inspiring posts.  I love blogs :)

My Skincare Routine

Here is what I am currently using.  I do rotate round a few things, but at the moment I am reaching for these most of all.

Cleanser: Origins Checks and Balances (Post HERE)
Toner: Neal's Yard Lavender Floral Water
Moisturiser: Simple

Botanics Eye makeup remover (Link)
Nude Cleanse off facial oil (Beauty Bay or SpaceNK)
Spa Find Toner
The Body Shop Seaweed Night Serum for Combi Skin! (Post on it here)

I also have some face masks and balms I use a couple of times a week.

I use muslin cloths with the cleansers, which adds a gntle exfoliation.

What products do you normally reach for in your skincare routine?  Have you used any of the above?
