Haul: Origins + Offer!

What's in my box????!!!

In continuation of my quest for clear healthy skin, I have invested in a bottle of Origins Checks and balances.

When you buy any Origins product from at the moment, you can choose a free 3 piece skin kit (Yes another box!!)

Checks and Balancs is designed to moisturise dry patches AND calm oily patches, while cleansing and removing dirt and makeup.

What was in my little box?

Perfect world for eyes, prfect world cleanser and Modern Friction exfoliator.

I have used some origins products before- I have a minty lip treatment for us on flights which I LOVE.  I havent tried this before so I am looking forward to giving it a go!  It doesnt contain mineral oil amongst othr things, which makes it skin friendly! Hurrah.  Origins also have a good commitment to testing on humans, being free of animal products as well as other nasties like parabens, synthtic colours and fragrances.  A good bench mark for the beauty industry!

I'm not sure how much longer this offer is on, but well worth a look!  If anyone knows if it is on in stores too then post below!

Hav you used any Origins products? What cleanser do you use?

New blog design

Aftr trying to make one small edit, I managed to delete my blog background and a lot of other things.  I think the original image might have been taken of the intrenet or somthing.  Anyway here is what I have come up with very quickly.  I hope you like it! A lot of people said they liked my background, but hopefully you like the blog posts more than the background?!

Let me know what you think? Is anything missing?  Hopefully I'll fix it more when I have more time.  Really didn't need this tonight at all :(

Thanks to Rotten Otter for her help tonight in blogger meltdown!!

Haul! Urban Decay, Bourjois, Batiste...

I got Naked- I'm sure you have all seen the swatches, but if you want some more then just ask!

I thought about it for a while, and kept looking in Boots, then this week I saw th stand had Naked palettes.  I had to rush off but I made a pact with myself that if there was only one left when I came back through, then I would be allowed to get it.  Guess what....

Yes!  I also picked up the new Bourjois mascara (2 stp volumizer) which came with a free eye pencil.  I picked up the Kohl and Contour in Black (which has a pencil sharpener in the lid).  I also want some of th duo chrome ones, but they had sold out in the store.

I picked up some UDPP- which 'might' be for my next giveaway ;)

I also went to Superdrug and picked up a small batiste dry shampoo as my handbag on had run out.  I havent seen any of the coloured ones in mini sizes yet, so I had to go with Tropical.  As much as I love Batiste, I probably wont be repurchasing again unless I find out that it is CFC free.  I would rather use a sprinkle can than us CFC sprays.

What dry shampoo do you use?  Have you got any thoughts on CFCs?  Have you tried the new UD or Bourjois products?

YSL Nail polish flag?

I went to my nail polish box today and these were the first three polishs that came to hand- and in this order too!

Red, white and blue.

Except the 'Red' is Brown (Expresso), Moonlight Whit and Deep Blue.

I resited the urge to paint flags on my nails.

Do you have any YSL Polishes? What do you think of them?  What polishes are most used and at the top of your storage?

Clinique update/review + haul

So I have nearly used up my clinique 3 step travel kit.  I blogged about it here

After using it morning and night, I can say that I won't be purchasing the whole thing.  I have found the system quite drying.  This may be due to the online system matching with with combination dry skin, rather than combination oily (which is what I would have picked).  Further to this, I think that becuase of the drying clarifying lotion, my skin has started to produce MORE oil to moisturise the skin!  This could lead to more spots for me, so I have stopped using it (there is only a drop left).

I quite liked the facial wash, although I was given the mild.  I have some very mild which I might try.  I certainly found the strength of moisturiser they prescribed me with was inappropriated for use on my chin and T zone.  I found it was becoming very shiny by mid-morning and worse after that.  I then only used it on my cheeks.  I am investigating what products to try next, but will be steering clear of these products.

I have cleared out a load of items from my closet and started to replace them with Autumn/Winter clothes, but clothes that will hopefully fit me and my shape.  I am fed up of clothes shrinking, or not fitting me.  I am not a weird shape but so many shops make me feel that way. I'm around 5' 10 and its amazing how different trousers are in each shop I visit!

Last week I bought a little haul in H&M.  I say little but I ended up with 4 pairs of trousers and 3 jumpers!!

Skinny Jeans had £10 off per pair so these were £19.99 instead of £29.99!

I liked this slouch neck fitted jumper dress so much that I bought 3. Brown, Black and Grey £14.99 each.

I also needed some new leggings after a friends animal put a hole in mine.

2 x long black leggins for winter.  Great for teaming with chunky socks or skin coloured tights for a warm winter look.  Also great for wearing to yoga (Yes I am still doing my new (academic) year's resolution!! )

I love wearing these jean and leggings with my shoes boots (which I love so much I bought them in grey and black earlier this year).

This week I have also bought some YSL, Burberry and URbans Decay.  I'm waiting for it to arrive, but I'm sure I will post on it!

Am I the only one who buys lots of the same thing in different colurs?!

So what have you bought this week?  What sort of clothes will you be buying this Autumn?  How are your resolutions going?

P.s. My giveaway will now close 1st October, so still time to enter!

What mascara do you use?

Quick question!  Can you recommend your mascara?  Which ones have you liked? Any to avoid?

I am just about to throw out a mascara and I want to replace it with something good.  I normally keep two on the go (at least).... one to carry around, one to keep in my vanity.  Always black mascara.

Thanks in advance!

Customer Service...? Nettiquette...

Why is it so many companies think they can get away with poor customer service?  Normally because they have either 1) already got you money or 2) make lots of money and can afford to annoy one person.

I'm not backwards in coming forward about this.  I used to be very quiet, but I am getting very fed up with companies treating me like I am invisible. (I have posted on this before- just click the tag or search my older posts).

In this post I am focussing on emails.  Love or hate them, they are here to stay.

Perhaps the most shocking in the last year has been MANGO.  I spent over 3 figures in their store, and had a fault.  I emailed them, heard nothing back, emailed again... nothing... emailed again... nothing, and again... you get the picture?  I then sent a very angry email to them simply stating that their 'customer service was appauling, amongst the worst I had come across, and that I would be ceasing to use their services'.  I did not mention any other details in this email.  All of a sudden I recieved a personal email which went into detail about the original emails I had sent.  Effectively this means that they received all of my earlier emails, but CHOSE to ignore them  I didnt even receive a 'thank you for your email, we will reply in due course' email.  This took over 6 months to get anything out of them.

You would think that companies would lack in aftercare, but no.  Some companies lack in 'before-care'!  I'm not joking.  I emailed Miss Selfridge inquiring if a product they had 'just' sold out of, would be coming back into stock.  This is now 2 months ago.. and Miss Selfridge have not replied... I guess they don't need my money!!

I appreciate that central head offices, can get hectic, but in the case of Inglot, I received a reply a week later to say that my message had been forwarded to the appropraite department.  I havent heard anything back from this department.

The Body Shop havent been great with their emails, but at least they reply.  I have only had to prompt them once to reply.

Still leading the board is Lush.  Their customer service work hard to reply to every email.  Whatsmore, it actually comes from a person, with a name- not 'customer service team'.  this makes it very easy to reply to if needed.

Customer Nettiquette!

1) Set an auto reply to every message received, THANKING the customer for their email and advising of a reply time.  This will confirm to the customer that you have received thir email
2) If possible, reply to the query within 24-48 hours. 7 days AT THE MOST.  DO NOT make the customer chase up their reply!
3) If you are unable to supply an item, please feel free to sugest an alternative.  This is very helpful, and shows the customer that you have some knowledge of the company you work for.
4) In the case of larger companies like Ebay, Paypal, banks- READ THE CUSTOMERS EMAIL! Sounds silly but I have lost count of the number of times I have constructed a well thought out message, only to receive a stock template answer that has nothing to do with my query!!  I then have to reconstruct the email and resend it- with implicit instructions NOT to send a stock reply.
5) If the customer is complaining, ask them how you could improve your service.  Show that you are willing to improve.

As customers we must;
1) Keep our emails short and to the point.
2) Keep a copy of your email if possible.
3) Not waste the companies time.

Just think of it this way, if the customer sent you a letter, you would have to reply within several days.  Why is an email any different?  Customers, if you sent a letter, would you compose it the same way as an email?  Would you take the time to write a letter and send it?

What are your experiences of customer service emails?  Are there any points you would add to the Nettiquette list?

Summer Read. Healthy Skin Diet

I picked this up a few weeks ago from Amazon after seeing it mentioned on another blog.

I have a quest to get healthy, clear skin.  Hopefully this book will help it- it claims to help you get beautiful skin in 8 weeks...

I have read a bit of the book, and it seems to be a complete guide, from the inside out.  Each chapter focuses on a complaint, and then explains the science behind it.  I like this approach as it means you have the tools for life- not just a 'diet' where you eat their recipes and then get confused or bored.  I hasten to add that this is not a diet to loose weight, just improve circulation and skin condition.

This book is available from many places, but the cheapest I have found has been on Amazon and Ebay.

Have you read this book? What did you think?  What are the best lifestyle books you have read?  What tips can you recommend?

Depotting, repotting...

I decided to depot a few MAC eyeshadows today, to put into a MAC palette.  This will hopefully make them a bit more accessible, and save some space. Win win!

There are tonnes of tutorials on blogger and youtube. I use the heat method BUT sometimes all you need to do is wedge a blunt knife in the casing and gently twist AND THE SHADOW WILL COME OUT!  No need for heat or alcohol!!  Worth a gentle try before you fill your house with nasty fumes!!

I look a few pictures along the way. Enjoy!

Tools.  I also used wire cutters and a sharp pointed knife.

Split the clam.

Clip the sides (yes I forgot to photograph this at the right point!)

Heat, or no heat- you decide!  (The paper protects your GHDs!! Make sure it is oven paper or you'll set fire to it!!)

Apply magnet.  At this stage I always apply a little heat to the clam shell and removed the sticker, before applying the sticker to the depot.

Send it to a good home, where it will be protected and loved!

The End

Have you any depotting/rehoming tips you wish to share?

Thanks you! x

Surprise! Extra comp entry!

As of this point, anyone who has been kind enough to leave me a comment on my post on the razor yesterday, or the clinique 3 step post the day before .... has received an extra entry to my giveaway.  Just a random thank you! :)

Bourjois Smokey Eye trios

I love these.  They seem to get snapped up pretty quickly from the Bourjois stands, so you have to be lucky to get them.

They come in all different colours.  I have 03 Mordore Chic (Browns) and 06 Violet Romantic (purples).  They contain 3 baked eyeshadows, and a little applicator.  I prefer to use my brushes.  Great set to create a great smokey eye.  Also handy for travel kits.

The brown on requires quite a bit of building for a dramatic look, but there are a few hints on the back.  Hopefully foolproof for everyone!  I think these retail for around £7.49.

Do you have any of these?  Can you recommend any smokey eye kits?

Oh razor, where have you been? Wilkinson Sword Intuition

I hate shaving.  Hand's up if you are with me on this one... (or Comment below with 'I hate shaving'!!).

Guys, they just roll their hairy self out of bed, and that's it (well mostly).  Girls, we have to pluck, shave, scrub, exfoliate, moisturise, cleanse, tone, moisturise, polish, etc etc etc.

Most of us will still suffer with dry skin, or pimply skin.  If we wax then it's the home kit with instructions on how to 'mentally prepare', salon waxing/sugaring costs money, epilators (in my experience) sound like an instrument of tourture used by the dentist (and result in very strange questions being asked by anyone in the house at that point!!).  Not to mention that you have to wait for the hair to be long enough to be 'extracted' by sed methods.  This leaves creams (which smell..weird unless the market has advanced), or shaving.

For years I have braved a few occassions of home waxing, a few salon waxes (method by choice if possible), and shaving.  Razor and gel.  Yet it is a chore.  Especially under the arms.  Ifind this area gets dry and itchy sometimes (probably because I shave it more than my legs).

This summer I came across this product.  Wilkinson Sword Intuition.  Reduced two products into one.  It is basically a giant block of moisture with a razor in the middle.  Perfect for space saving during travels- and for reducing the time taken when getting ready in a hurry.  I was very dubious, but just wet your skin and shave away.  It left my skin soft and nic free (hurrah!).

It is quite chunky- which made smaller areas like under arms and knees a little bit tricky, but the razor is easy to hold AND comes with a travel cap.  Something not all comapnies do.

Costs £5.69 for the shaver plus one blade.  Replacement blades cost aroun £6 for 3.

What hair removal method do you use?  If you use a razor, which one?  Any hair removal tips to share?

Clinique 3 step. Have you tried it?

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a sample kit a few weeks back.  It consists of liquid facial soap, clarifying toner and dramatically different moisturiser.  I have tried a few skincare items by clinique a while back, but thought I'd give this one a go.  I think it is very important to change your skincare routine according to the seasons.  Not only that but very few of us will use the same routine and products from our teen years!!

I used it this morning for the first time and .. get ready for the gross picture.... this is the cotton wool pad after I used the clarifying liquid.  Yuck!

I guess that is a combination of make-up, oil, dead skin cells... Nice!! I thought my skin was fairly clean!!!  I will be interested to see if this lessens the more I use it.

I make no secret of the fact that I suffer with bad skin. Combination, large pores, spot, uneven tone.... I paint a b-e-autiful picture, don't I?!  After using this I actually felt my skin was clearer.  I am not sure if it would become drying if I used it two times a day (as instructed) but I am guessing I will run out of sample before I find out...?

Have you used the Clinique 3 step?  What are your thoughts on it?

Competition update and annoucement

Hello everyone,

More prizes added and closure extended!

Because my life is a bit crazy right now, I am extending my very belated blog birthday competition!!  This is good news for you guys!  At most it will be a month later than originally planned, but I will give you notice when I figure it out!  It's going to take me while to count up all the comments!!  Plus there are a few extra prizes I want to add, but I need to be at home long enough to photograph them for you!!

Just a reminder.  My blog is a blog.  Not a place to get free stuff (other than tips and discount codes).  For those who have been contacting me to add my blog to a giveaway directory or blog purely for giveaways, or even adding me without my permission, I am very disheartend.  I am part of a beauty community.  This means we share tips, ideas and friendship.  I am doing this as a thank you to the people that do that.  Not as a commercial competition to promote any products.. (for staters I'm not a company!!).

Also if you have entered, please make sure you have read the rules fo my giveaway.  I have had a few people enter without readign the rules- which makes me think that you havent read my blog at all.  The winner will be posted here, not emailed.

Here is a close look at some of the prizes.

Aussie Miracle Moist Conditioner (75ml), Aussie Miracle Moist Shampoo, Lane Bath and Shower Gel, Lane Shampoo.

Dior Lip glow. Colour Reviver Balm

Just a little update!  As some of you know from twitter, blog, etc Dior's Lip glow was on my 'lust list'.  I managed to get hold of some quite a while back, and I just thought I would do a little update.  Often we beauty bloggers want something for ages, post on it straight away and then never post on it again.

Well, it has become one of my staple items again this summer, so I thought I would do a little update.  I love the chunky packaging.  It is easy to find in my handbag- and yes I do carry it around a lot!

What does it do?  It is a balm that works with your lip's PH to create a great natural, unique glow.  It changes colour slightly when on.

Why do I like it? It comes out slightly pink, clear balm.  Straight away when I put it on, it makes my lips feel soft, but not sticky.  It (mostly) stays on for a good few hours, without drying my lips, and smells slightly of strawberries (in my opinion).  All in all a good mix of the things I like and look for in a balm! I have some that you apply with your finger, but I prefer direct application if possible.  Less chance of transfering germs!  Jus think of all the people who hold the rails on the tube in London, and then use the same hand to apply balm direct to their lips... (deep breaths!).  As if that wasn't enough, this balm has an SPF10 factor inbuilt!  So natural-but-better colour, sun protection, great smell and a balm..

Ok so tell me the bad...
Well this balm is so soft, that I find I get through a tube prety quickly :( And there isn't exactly a huge amount in the tube to begin with :( It retails for around £18-£20.50 depending on where you get it (Boots, Debenhams, Selfridges, Duty free, HOF all stock it).

While it is a nice balm, I find that I reach for it more during the summer (less make-up or beach bag make-up), or the middle of winter when those dreaded chapped lips appear!  It has been a saviour when I've left in a rush.  It has also made it's way into my 'products that have multiple uses!

Have you tried this balm?  Which balm do you reach for?  Which lip balm do you always replace?
